Hemp Seed Hearts Super Pesto
Everyone loves the simplicity of pesto. Whether you are making a quick pasta dish, slice of toast or salad, fresh pesto is only a quick whizz in the blender away.
If you have a nut allergy, you may be looking for an alternative to traditional recipes. Pine nuts can be delicious, but if you are seeking a safe alternative, hemp seeds are the ideal choice. Hemp hearts have a very similar flavor profile, but loads more nutrition than pine nuts. They contain all essential amino acids, along with omegas 3, 6 and 9 in an ideal ratio for optimal health.

Recipe: Hemp Hearts Super Nutrition Pesto
2 cups fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
1/4 cup shelled hemp seed hearts
1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese
2-3 tablespoons hemp seed oil
1 clove garlic
Squeeze of lemon
Salt to taste (about 1/4-1/2 teaspoon is a good amount)
Combine all of the ingredients in the bowl of a food processor and process until smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula if necessary. Add more or less oil to get the consistency you desire.
